How Tos: Auto Save Copy for TextMate

Filed under: Apple Related, Web Development — Buddy Toups @ 1:55 pm

You might be migrating to TextMate from BBEdit or some other text editors. And used a featured that allowed automatic backup copies for ever file you edit and save and was looking for this feature in Textmate, honestly it doesn’t exist. I found a solution in TextMate’s Wiki that works, quiet well actually, you create a small command in the Bundle Editor:

Sun Buys MySQL for One Billion

Filed under: MySQL, Technology, Web Development — Buddy Toups @ 5:57 am

The latest technology news, besides MacBook AIR, is the Sun / MySQL buyout. This sounds like it can be great for the MySQL community, but is also quite scary. Sun has lots of money, resources and influences in the enterprise marketplace. This could mean faster, better, and more stable development efforts to the behind MySQL Server. MySQL 5 already has introduced enterprise additions like triggers, stored procedures, foreign key constraints, views, etc. and is used by Google and Facebook. But with this double edge sword Sun could keep all the latest and greatest under commercial license products only. I don’t think they would because that is what has made MySQL so great and the reason for buying MySQL AB.

NewsGator

Great news for mac users looking for a great RSS reader. I used the lite version before and was using a open source Mac app called Vienna. I like NetNewsWire but never could convince myself to spend money for a RSS reader. This is the best RSS reader for Mac that I’ve tried out and use on a daily basis.

They also have a Windows, Mobile, and Online RSS Reader applications which our now free and other premium services for getting the latest and greatest feeds.

Here is their website http://www.newsgator.com/.

Give Up On Vista Ad

Filed under: Apple Related, Microsoft Related — Buddy Toups @ 1:12 pm
Apple Inc.'s Web Ad 'Give Up On Vista'

URL where it was found: http://www.cnet.com/windows-vista.html

This is about the funniest web ad I’ve ever seen. This is one of the latest Apple Inc. ads that rubs Mac OS X Leopard success in Microsoft’s face. Many OEMs/PC manufactures have recently start offering customers the choice of Windows XP or Windows Vista pre-installed on their new computer.

The irony about this ad is the ad program on CNET must of pickup on the keyword Vista and is now running the ad on CNET’s main Microsoft Windows Vista main page.

My New Mac Mini Intel Core 2 Duo

Filed under: Apple Related, Microsoft Related, Technology — Buddy Toups @ 5:31 am

I just bought the new mac mini 2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with 1GB stock RAM. Its a very nice machine fast and responsive. The thing I really love about the new macs with Intels is the freedom to test a Windows only browser at near native speeds. I hated Virtual PC but thats the only way I could test my website designs but now Mac Intel with Parallels software its so easy and fast. Even with Firefox and Safari gaining market share, the majority of web surfers still use Windows with Internet Explorer and developers / designers should always thoroughly test this platform.

Rhino on Rails: Serious Server-side JavaScript

Filed under: Google, HTML/CSS, Javascript, Technology, Web Development — Buddy Toups @ 5:10 am

I also always wanted to play with Rudy on Rails but then that met learning other language, Rudy. Don’t get me wrong its good to learn multiple computer languages, but its to find the time. Now a JavaScript version of Rails thats more productive. I always though JavaScript should be everywhere. Most programmers either know it or can pick it very quickly and it is very portable. So this is some great news and very cool project that could take the web development world by storm.

Silverlight vs. AJAX vs. Flash

Filed under: Microsoft Related, Technology, Web Development — Buddy Toups @ 10:01 am

Article from Ajaxian » “Ajax is now an Endangered Species”

Dare Obasanjo, of Microsoft, is an obvious fan of Silverlight, and has a piece on how Ajax is now an Endangered Species…

…Flash has been around for a long time, yet Ajax became en vogue a couple of years ago. It wasn’t because it could pull off richer effects than Flash. In many ways Flash is superior (storage, access to webcam, graphics, browser quirk issues), but it didn’t have some of the webby features that we love. It is a plugin. Silverlight is a plugin. Silverlight doesn’t have the install base of Flash. It doesn’t run on Linux (more…)
