The No-No Rules for Your Website.

When building your website always make sure you pay attention to every single detail, to make sure it performs at best.
Here are 5 important rules to help….
- Do not use splash pages! Splash pages are the first pages you see on a website usually has very pretty images, animation and/or music. They were very popular in the late 90’s with the Flash and Shockwave player technology boom. They always have some kind of greeting such as welcome or click here to enter the site. These pages are unnecessary and will cause a customer to leave the site as quickly as the click of their mouse will allow.
- Do not use excessive banner ads! Even the most novice people have learned how to ignore banner ads. It is a waste of important web site real estate. Alternatively you should provide more beneficial content and weave more applicable links into your content and let your visitors fed that way they want to buy where as ads seem to be more like they are making the visitor feel they are being pushed to buy.
- Do not make it too busy Keep it simple you need to supply clear and to the point navigation menu so that even the least net savvy people will know how to use it. Stay away from perplex flash base menus or multi-tiered drop down menus. Your visitors will not stay on your site if they can’t operate through it.
- Don’t confuse location. When visitors are interested in browsing your site you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at the moment. You want your visitors to be able to easily direct themselves through the site. A confused visitor is a lost visitor.
- Avoid audio If your visitor is going to stay on your site for a long period of time reading your content you want to make sure they can easily focus and not get distracted by some audio looping over and over. If its beneficial to you to have audio (some sites its mandatory) make sure visitors have some control over it. Volume or mute controls work fine.
