Many small business owners are confused about what to expect from a website, what kind of site they need, and how to establish their existence. Unless your site is an eCommerce site you should be focusing on communication with your potential customers. Having your company appeal to them instead of selling. Here are a few steps to help move towards these goals.
- Identify your audience
Build a general description of who you are. (known as personas)
Build your website around the identified personas. The goal of your site is to secure your clientele they will have the final word not you. If you like your site but future clients don’t it wont help your business just hurt it.
- JUST SAY NO to templates
template don’t make your site original they won’t fulfill your business needs. State your message clearly when you know what your clients are looking for state your solution clearly on your site. Potential clients should be immediately informed of what your company offers and what makes you stand out from the rest. If you have any awards or are listed with the BBB display it clearly. That can give you an advantage against competition. Make it easy for future clients to contact you. Make sure to display your contact information phone number, address, etc. where it can easily be found. Also make sure to obtain as much information as you can from the client. Full name, company, phone number, email address, company website, comments, etc. Name and contact information are the most important and should be mandatory. Don’t forget to offer emails and newsletters from you.
- Make sure clients can find you
When marketing your self be sure to build keywords that can be used to find your company. Be as specific as possible. Keywords should include services and/or products, your location, and long phrase keywords. Make sure your listed in all major search engines google, yahoo, bing, and etc as well as local directories.
Last but not least monitor your efforts. Make sure you install software that monitors your site traffic such as Google Analytics also keyword performance and traffic sources.
Most importantly your main focus point should be on communicating with future clients, attracting, and keeping them interested in your company.
